President of Pharmaciens Sans Frontières – International Committee (PSF-CI)

Bordeaux, October 28th, 2009 – After 24 years of operations and initiatives aimed at ensuring access for all people, everywhere, to quality health care and medication, the French nonprofit organization Pharmaciens Sans Frontières – International Committee (PSF-CI), involved in reorganization proceeding since July 2009, was yesterday, Tuesday, October 27th, wound-up by decision of court.

In response to the requests of our court nominee, the French NGO ACTED (Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development), one of the main charities in France, offered to take up some of the projects implemented by PSF-CI in order to continue our action in the field. ACTED has reacted positively to our request proposing to take up activities in some of the countries where our teams are currently operational, and with the prospect of resuming some of our missions which were put on hold during the past few months.

For those projects taken up, ACTED wishes to pursue the mission of Pharmaciens Sans Frontières – International Committee by maintaining our commitment towards ensuring access of vulnerable populations to quality care and by promoting the rational use of Essential Generic Drugs, in accordance with the charter of the Mouvement Pharmaciens Sans Frontières and in full respect of the the humanitarian principles of universality, impartiality, quality and transparency in the relief provided to populations in distress.

To ensure this continuity, ACTED will rely on the recognized experience and expertise of Pharmaciens Sans Frontières – International Committee. This difficult time for us all represents by no means the end of Pharmaciens Sans Frontières – International Committee but rather a new step in our humanitarian project.

I would like to thank heartily today all those who have contributed to the action of Pharmaciens Sans Frontières – International Committee, our teams in the field and in Paris, our members and voluntary workers, all of the entities of the Mouvement Pharmaciens Sans Frontières, our partners and donors, as well as all those who have placed their trust in us throughout these years and without whom nothing would have been possible.

It is together with all the national and international entities members of the Mouvement Pharmaciens Sans Frontières that a new dynamic will be launched in order to promote the project and the values we have shared since 1985. I truly hope that with your help and support the NGO ACTED will carry on the projects of Pharmaciens Sans Frontières – International Committee in the future.
